American Airlines Center (AAC) is the home of the Dallas Stars (NHL) and Dallas Mavericks (NBA), located at 2500 Victory Avenue in Dallas's Victory Park neighbourhood. Opened on July 17, 2001, at a cost of $420 million — funded through a combination of hotel and car rental taxes approved by Dallas voters and contributions from both teams — the arena replaced the aging Reunion Arena and was designed by Driehaus Prize-winning architect David M. Schwarz with HKS, Inc. It spans 850,000 square feet and seats 18,532 for NHL hockey, 19,200 for NBA basketball, and up to 21,000 for concerts. Known affectionately as "The Hangar" for its Quonset hut-like roof profile — a nod to naming rights holder American Airlines, headquartered nearby in Fort Worth — the AAC features a conservative traditional design with sweeping brick façades and smooth arches designed to anchor the Victory Park urban development. The arena was intentionally positioned as the centrepiece of a new commercial district intended to reinvigorate northwest downtown Dallas, and Victory Park has grown significantly around it over the past two decades. One of the arena's defining features is its retractable seating system, which transforms the bowl from a 19,200-seat basketball configuration to an 18,532-seat hockey rink, bringing the upper deck noticeably closer to the ice and creating a more intimate atmosphere for Stars games than comparable arenas. The interior includes four themed lobbies with distinct city views and a significant public art collection commissioned for the building's opening. In 2023, American Airlines Center completed its largest-ever capital upgrade — a $20 million renovation replacing all 19,134 seats, installing a new centre-hung video board and two end-zone boards, expanding digital signage by 13,500+ square feet, adding an exterior marquee display, and replacing the roof. A subsequent $30 million infrastructure programme was announced in 2024 addressing HVAC, electrical systems, and premium area enhancements. The arena's event history is distinguished. It hosted the 2007 NHL All-Star Game, the 2006 and 2011 NBA Finals, and the 2024 NBA Finals. The Stars reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 2020 (losing to Tampa Bay), and PNC Plaza on the arena's south side hosted a massive outdoor watch party for that series. The arena has also hosted the 2018 NHL Draft, UFC events, major concerts, and in December 2025 hosted the first PWHL game in Texas history. DART Victory Station sits directly across Victory Avenue from the arena's west entrance — a 4-minute walk. The Green and Orange Lines provide direct connections across the Dallas–Fort Worth metro, and the Trinity Railway Express connects fans from Fort Worth and Irving. Pre-game dining and drinking in Victory Park is exceptional, with Haywire, Mi Cocina, and Billy Can Can all steps from the arena. The W Dallas hotel, directly adjacent, is the most convenient luxury accommodation for visiting fans.

DART 3-hour pass costs $3.00; day pass $6.00, available from station vending machines or the GoPass mobile app.

The arena earned the nickname "The Hangar" because its distinctive roof has a Quonset hut-like appearance resembling an aircraft hangar — fitting given that naming rights holder American Airlines is headquartered nearby in Fort Worth. The nickname is widely used by Dallas Stars and Mavericks fans.
