Stadium
Dens Park is the historic home of Dundee Football Club, one of Scotland's oldest clubs, located on Sandeman Street in the north of Dundee city. With a capacity of 11,775, the stadium has been Dundee's home since 1899. The ground features three main stands: the Main Stand (Bobby Cox Stand), the South Stand, and the Derry Stand. Dens Park's most extraordinary characteristic is its proximity to Tannadice Park — home of city rivals Dundee United — which sits just 200 yards (183 metres) away across the junction of Tannadice Street and Sandeman Street. This makes the two Dundee grounds the closest senior football stadiums in the United Kingdom, a quirk of the city's football geography that is unique in world football at this level. The stadium was last renovated in 1998-99 and retains a traditional, compact feel that creates an intimate atmosphere. Head coach Steven Pressley took charge of Dundee FC for the 2025-26 season.
Dundee FC moved to the Dens Park site from Carolina Port in 1899, playing their first match at the new ground that year. The stadium record attendance of 43,024 was set on 7 February 1953 for a Scottish Cup tie against Rangers. The ground has hosted three full Scotland international matches — in March 1904, March 1908, and December 1936, all Home Internationals against Wales. Dens Park was renovated in 1998-99 with the construction of new stands under architect James Paul Associates. Dundee FC won the Scottish First Division championship in 1961-62 and reached the European Cup semi-finals in 1963, memorably holding AC Milan to a draw in the first leg at Dens Park. The Dundee city derby between the Dee and United at Dens Park and Tannadice is one of Scottish football's most distinctive rivalries, with both grounds visible to each other.
The atmosphere at Dens Park for derby matches against Dundee United is uniquely intense given the extraordinary proximity of the two grounds. Walking from one stadium to the other on derby day — literally 200 yards — is a remarkable football experience found nowhere else in British football. The Dark Blues support are passionate and loud in the confines of the compact Dens Park stands.
