Little Caesars Arena stands as the centrepiece of Detroit's downtown sports and entertainment revival, serving as the home of the Detroit Pistons since 2017 while anchoring The District Detroit — a $1.5 billion mixed-use development that has transformed the Midtown corridor. Opened on September 12, 2017, at a cost of $862.9 million, Little Caesars Arena is one of the NBA's newest and most innovative venues, designed by HOK with the expressed goal of creating a destination that would revitalise a significant stretch of Woodward Avenue between downtown and Midtown. With a basketball capacity of 20,491, the arena brought the Pistons back to downtown Detroit for the first time since the team moved to the Palace of Auburn Hills in 1988, reuniting the franchise with its original fan base and the city's vibrant cultural core. The arena's most distinctive architectural feature is its unique "neighbourhood" design concept — the upper concourse is fully enclosed with retail, bars, and restaurants accessible to the public on non-event days, effectively creating an indoor public space for Detroit. Little Caesars Arena is also home to the Detroit Red Wings (NHL), who returned to downtown from Joe Louis Arena in 2017. The concourse features statues of Red Wings legends Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay, and Alex Delvecchio, exhibits honouring both franchises, and the original Olympia signage from the Red Wings' legendary former home. The 2025–26 Detroit Pistons are one of the NBA's most exciting stories — just two seasons removed from historically poor basketball, the team has become a genuine Eastern Conference contender under its young core led by Cade Cunningham.
Little Caesars Arena replaced two arenas simultaneously: Joe Louis Arena (Red Wings, 1979–2017) and the Palace of Auburn Hills (Pistons, 1988–2017). The decision to build a new downtown arena that would house both franchises was part of a broader vision to revitalise Detroit's Woodward Avenue corridor between the downtown core and Midtown. The project was developed by Olympia Entertainment and Ilitch Holdings and cost $862.9 million. Construction began in 2015 and the arena opened on September 12, 2017, with a Red Wings preseason game. The Pistons moved from Auburn Hills — a suburban facility 40 miles north of downtown — making this their first downtown Detroit home since Cobo Arena in the 1970s. The arena was designed by HOK, who specifically created the unique "neighbourhood" concept where the ground floor concourse is accessible to the public as a retail and dining destination on non-event days — an unusual and successful design choice in major arena construction. Little Caesars, the pizza chain founded in Detroit in 1959 by the Ilitch family (who also own the Red Wings), provided the naming rights. The concourse features extensive tributes to Detroit sports history — statues of Red Wings legends Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay, and Alex Delvecchio; original Olympia signage; manhole covers commemorating great players — creating a genuine museum of Detroit hockey and basketball heritage.
Attending a Pistons game at Little Caesars Arena in 2025–26 is to witness one of the NBA's most exciting team resurgences. The Pistons' rapid improvement from historically bad to playoff contenders has reignited genuine basketball passion in Detroit and created an increasingly electric atmosphere at LCA. The arena's design — wide concourses, six distinct premium clubs, upper concourse bars with standing-room court views — creates multiple gathering points that animate the building before and during games. Pre-game, Hockeytown Cafe on Woodward Avenue, Grey Ghost, Bakersfield, and Harry's Bar are the primary fan gathering spots. Inside, the concourse exhibits and Detroit sports history displays reward early arrival. For the most charged atmospheres, attend rivalry games against the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, or Cleveland Cavaliers.
Little Caesars Arena behind-the-scenes tours cover the Pistons and Red Wings locker rooms (subject to team schedule), player tunnels, court-level access, luxury suites, press areas, and the impressive concourse exhibits including the Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay, and Alex Delvecchio statues and original Olympia signage. The QLINE is free to ride and runs until midnight on event nights. Multiple DDOT (Detroit Department of Transportation) and SMART (suburban) bus routes also serve the Woodward Avenue corridor. The nearest DDOT stops are on Woodward Avenue directly in front of the arena. For fans arriving from suburban areas, SMART bus routes connect the wider metro area to downtown transfer points.

The Detroit People Mover (DPM) is an automated monorail system serving downtown Detroit in a loop, with stations including Broadway, Cadillac Center, and Michigan Avenue within walking distance of connecting transit to the arena. While no DPM station is directly at Little Caesars Arena, the system provides useful connections from downtown Detroit hotels to the Woodward Avenue corridor. From DPM stations, the QLINE connects northward to the arena on Woodward Avenue.
Little Caesars Arena's position on Woodward Avenue in The District Detroit places it within walking distance of Midtown's restaurants, bars, and cultural institutions. The Detroit Institute of Arts is a 10-minute walk north. The Michigan Science Center is nearby. Several bars on Cass Corridor are within 5–10 minutes on foot. The unique design of Little Caesars Arena — with its public-facing ground floor concourse featuring retail and food outlets accessible without event tickets on non-game days — creates a walkable connection between the arena and the surrounding neighbourhood that is uncommon among major NBA venues.
Little Caesars Arena offers behind-the-scenes tours that take guests through the operational and historical heart of this award-winning $862.9 million venue. Tours explore the Detroit Pistons and Red Wings locker rooms, the player tunnels, court-level access, luxury suites, and the extensive concourse exhibits and memorabilia that line Little Caesars Arena's wide, impressive concourse.
