Lord's Cricket Ground is the most celebrated cricket venue on the planet — the Home of Cricket in every sense. Set in the leafy enclave of St John's Wood in north-west London, the 31,100-capacity ground has been the spiritual heart of the game since Thomas Lord established it on its current site in 1814. Owned and operated by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), Lord's has hosted the Ashes, multiple World Cup finals including the unforgettable 2019 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup final, and now serves as the home ground of London Spirit in The Hundred. The iconic Grade II*-listed Victorian Pavilion, the futuristic NatWest Media Centre (winner of the 1999 RIBA Stirling Prize), and the famous 2.5-metre slope across the square make Lord's unlike any other cricket ground in the world. Visiting Lord's is a pilgrimage for cricket fans — whether attending a match, taking the guided tour through the Long Room and MCC Museum, or simply soaking up the heritage of the game's most storied venue. A £61.8 million redevelopment of the Tavern and Allen Stands (designed by WilkinsonEyre, completing 2027) will further enhance the ground's capacity and facilities for the next generation of cricket fans.
Thomas Lord established his first cricket ground in Marylebone in 1787, at what is now Dorset Square. Forced to move twice — first to Regent's Park in 1811, then to the present St John's Wood site in 1814 — Lord settled permanently just before the Napoleonic Wars ended. The MCC had been the custodian of the Laws of Cricket since 1788. The Victorian Pavilion was built in 1889–90 and is Grade II* listed. The Mound Stand (Michael Hopkins, 1987), the NatWest Media Centre (Future Systems, 1999 — Stirling Prize winner), and the Compton and Edrich Stands (2021 redevelopment) represent successive milestones in the ground's architectural evolution. The 2019 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Final — England vs New Zealand, decided by a super over after scores finished level — is widely considered the greatest limited-overs match ever played.
A day at Lord's is unlike any other cricket experience in the world. The combination of the historic Pavilion, the famous Long Room, the unique slope across the square, the perfectly kept outfield, and the sense of occasion that permeates every corner of the ground creates an atmosphere of reverence and excitement in equal measure. London Spirit fixtures in The Hundred bring a more accessible energy to Lord's — live music, family entertainment, a younger crowd — while retaining the ground's unmatched atmosphere. Lord's also hosts The Hundred Final each year in late August, the pinnacle occasion of the competition.
The closest London Underground station to Lord's is St John's Wood on the Jubilee Line, approximately 700 metres — a 9-minute walk — from the Grace Gate entrance on St John's Wood Road. The Jubilee Line connects directly from London Bridge, Waterloo, Westminster, Green Park, Bond Street, and Baker Street. Marylebone mainline station (Chiltern Railways) is approximately 600 metres — a 10-minute walk — from the ground and provides services from Birmingham, Oxford, and the Chiltern line. Paddington Station (Great Western Railway and Elizabeth Line) is approximately a 20-minute walk and serves West and South-West England and South Wales.
Several TfL bus routes serve stops within easy walking distance of Lord's. Routes 13 and 113 run along Wellington Road to the east of the ground, stopping closest to the North Gate and Heyhoe Flint Gate, and are within comfortable walking distance of the Grace Gate. The nearest public car park is Q-Park St John's Wood at Kingsmill Terrace, London NW8 6AA, approximately 600 metres from the ground. Limited street parking may be available in surrounding residential streets but is heavily restricted and time-limited on matchdays. The ground is within the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) — check your vehicle's compliance before travelling.

The Lord's pitch is famous for its natural slope of approximately 2.5 metres from the Grandstand side to the Tavern side — the most pronounced slope of any major international cricket ground in the world. This slope profoundly affects how the ball behaves and is a key tactical consideration for all players. The slope runs across the square rather than end to end, meaning bowlers attack it from different angles at the Pavilion End versus the Nursery End. The unique playing surface is part of what makes Lord's cricket so distinctive.
