Bath Spa Station is the main railway station for Bath and is just 5-10 minutes walk from The Recreation Ground — making it one of the easiest stadium walks in Premiership Rugby. Operated by Great Western Railway (GWR) and CrossCountry, the station has frequent direct services from London Paddington (approximately 1 hour 25 minutes), Bristol Temple Meads (12 minutes), Cardiff Central (50 minutes), and regular connections from Swindon, Chippenham, and across the South West. From the station, walk east along Dorchester Street, cross the River Avon at Churchill Bridge or Parade Gardens, and the Rec is directly ahead alongside the river.
Bath Bus Station is located adjacent to Bath Spa railway station, just 5 minutes walk from The Rec. First West of England operates extensive local and regional bus services throughout Bath and the surrounding area. For matchday visitors driving in from outside Bath, three Park & Ride services are strongly recommended: Newbridge Park & Ride (west of Bath, A4), Odd Down Park & Ride (south, A367), and Lansdown Park & Ride (north, A46) — all with buses running every 15 minutes into the city centre, stopping within a short walk of The Rec. Bath also operates a charging Clean Air Zone — vehicles except private cars and motorbikes must pay to drive in the city centre. Standard bus fares approximately £2-£3 single; Park & Ride fares approximately £3-£5 return.
Bath is reached via the A4 (from London/Bristol), A46 (from Cheltenham/M4), and A367 (from Wells/Shepton Mallet). The Recreation Ground does not have its own car park. On-street parking in central Bath on matchdays is extremely limited and very expensive — paying up to £40 for a full-day city centre car park. Driving directly to the city centre on a match day is strongly discouraged. Park & Ride from Newbridge (A4 west), Odd Down (A367 south) or Lansdown (A46 north) is by far the most practical option. Bath operates a charging Clean Air Zone that applies to higher-emission vehicles except private cars and motorbikes — check bathnes.gov.uk/BathCAZ before travelling.
The Recreation Ground has the best city-centre location of any ground in Premiership Rugby — literally in the heart of Bath, beside the River Avon. From Bath Spa Station the walk is just 5-10 minutes. From the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey it is 3 minutes. From the Bath city centre shopping area (Milsom Street, Stall Street) approximately 8-10 minutes. The approach from Bath Spa Station along the riverside — passing Parade Gardens, with the Abbey and Georgian terraces ahead — is one of the great pre-match walks in English rugby. Most Bath city centre hotels are within 10-15 minutes walk of The Rec.
