Rugby Park, also known as The BBSP Stadium Rugby Park for sponsorship purposes, is the home of Kilmarnock Football Club, one of Scotland's oldest and most historically significant clubs. Located on Rugby Road in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, the stadium has a capacity of 15,003 and features four modern all-seater stands: the Frank Beattie Stand (west, main stand), the Moffat Stand (north), the Chadwick Stand (east), and the East Stand. The original Rugby Park was designed by Archibald Leitch in 1899, though the stadium was comprehensively rebuilt between 1994 and 1995 into its modern four-stand configuration. A 4-star hotel is attached to the stadium, completed in 2002, making Rugby Park one of the few British football grounds with its own on-site hotel. Kilmarnock FC voted in November 2023 to revert from the artificial pitch installed in 2019 to natural grass, with the change implemented at the start of the 2026-27 season, fulfilling Scottish Premiership requirements for grass surfaces. The club also allowed supporters to purchase a virtual square of the old pitch for £10 as a fundraiser. Rugby Park has hosted international football fixtures, with Scotland playing here twice in 1997, the first time in 87 years. The ground has also hosted concerts and international rugby union.
Rugby Park was first used in 1877, though at a slightly different site — the name derives from the ground's early dual use as a rugby and cricket venue. The current stadium site opened in 1899 with a match between Kilmarnock and Celtic that finished 2-2, also marking Killie's first season in the top flight after winning the Second Division. The record attendance of 35,995 was set on 10 March 1962 against Rangers in a Scottish Cup tie. The major redevelopment of 1994-95 created the current four-stand all-seater configuration. Lord Hamilton of Dalzell, who owned the land on which Fir Park (Motherwell) was built, used claret and amber colours — adopted by Motherwell, not Kilmarnock — but Killie's stripes have their own rich history dating to the early 20th century.
Rugby Park generates a lively atmosphere on match days, particularly for games against Glasgow clubs and city rivals. The compact, enclosed four-stand design channels supporter noise effectively onto the pitch. Kilmarnock have a passionate and loyal fanbase who follow their club throughout Scotland. European fixtures at Rugby Park have produced some of the ground's most memorable nights.
